NWAC Spotlight: Alumni, Dylan Pearce

By Emily Masseth, NWAC intern

About Dylan Pearce
Dylan Pearce played baseball at Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC) starting in 2015. Pearce originally chose SWOCC because he loved the atmosphere and felt like it was the right place to be. He believes playing at this level with the NWAC, “gets you the experience you need to move on to the higher levels of sports.” And that is just what he did. Pearce went on to play at the next level at Oregon State University (OSU). “The move from NWAC to NCAA is very different. The atmosphere is different, how we play, go about things, school, etc. I adjusted very well and was happy that I made it to the school I dedicated my life to playing for,” says Pearce.

OSU goes to the World Series
Pearce comments, “playing in the College World Series (CWS) was an unbelievably and unforgettable opportunity that was so special to me. It is a collegiate players dream to make it there and we were fortunate enough to not only make it there but to win the whole thing. I’m honored that I was one of the several guys that got to pitch in the CWS and it will be something I’ll never forget.”

Who is your greatest influence?
“My dad is my greatest influence because he introduced me to the sport and taught me everything I know. He always believed in me and never lost doubt and knew that I could do anything if I worked hard enough for it.”

What advice do you have for incoming student-athletes?
“Don’t let ANYONE ever tell you, you can’t do something.”

What is one challenge or obstacle that you have had to overcome in order to get where you are today?
“My size, I’ve always had people doubt me due to it and have a lack of belief or trust in me so I’ve always had to battle to prove people wrong.”

What is something you enjoy doing outside of your athletic pursuits?
Pearce enjoys fishing and doing MMA. He says, “I got into fishing from my grandpa and MMA from my dad. I’ve always been an outdoorsman and loved to fish and eventually was able to get into bass fishing tournaments in my area. I got into MMA at a young age, it was actually going to be a fallback plan to join an MMA gym after high school if baseball didn’t work out.”

What are your plans after you graduate?
“My #1 goal is to get drafted and play professional baseball after college, if that doesn’t work then I will have my bachelor’s degree in Sociology and will find a job I want.”

Name one fun fact about yourself:

Pearce has completed over 1,000 hours of volunteer community service with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) and Oregon’s Stewardship Program. Pearce says, “I started volunteering at ODFW and Oregon Stewardship when I was in 6th grade and got connected to a man named Jim Hutchins who is one of my closest friends and he is the founder of the Oregon Stewardship program. He helped me get into volunteering because I loved to be outside and work on trails and be in the woods.”
