2019 Fall Baden Athletes of the Year

VANCOUVER – The NWAC announces the 2019 Fall Baden NWAC Athletes of the Year. Each athlete will be honored at the NWAC Hall of Fame in May.

Volleyball
Lindsey Russell
Spokane • Sophomore • Setter
Mead High School • Spokane, WA

Named to American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Two-Year Schools Players to Watch in August, Russell didn't disappoint. The 6'1" Sasquatch setter led Spokane to a two year record of 76-2, including a perfect 40-0 record in 2018, and two NWAC championships. She was second in the conference in assists per set (9.65) and ninth in digs (459). Russell was named the East Region and NWAC Championship Tournament Most Valuable Player. She was also named national Sports Imports/ AVCA Two Year College Player of the Week in August. She has signed to play for DIV I Gonzaga University next season.

Men's Cross Country
Johan Correa
 Spokane • Freshman
 Kennewick High School • Kennewick, WA


 The 2019 Men's Cross Country Champion, Johan Correa finished the men's 8K in a time of 23:37 to win the title by three seconds. He was named week 8 Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week. Correa's top time, along with four of his teammates finishing in the top 6, brought the Sasquatch their 23rd conference championship.

Women's Cross Country
Jolene Whiteley
Spokane • Sophomore
Cheney High School • Cheney, WA

With a time of 18:25 in the women's 5K, Spokane sophomore Jolene Whiteley, who took third in last year's championship, crossed the finish line a blistering 43 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Her efforts helped the Sasquatch to finish second in the team championship. She was a two-time Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week in 2019. Whiteley has signed to run at the University of Idaho next year.

Men's Soccer
Evan Brewer
Tacoma • Sophomore • Goalkeeper
 Federal Way High School • Federal Way, WA

The 2019 West Region Most Valuable Player was once again a force in the Titan net this year. Brewer easily had the top save percentage (.868) and only allowed 0.52 goals against per match. The Titans allowed a league low 11 goals on the season and accumulated a league high 11 shutouts. Under his brilliant defensive leadership, Tacoma won the championship in 2018 and was runner-up in 2019. The Titans combined record with Brewer in goal was 37-3-2. Brewer is still considering several offers to from four-year programs for next season.

Women's Soccer
Hannah Jenkins
Highline • Sophomore • Defender
Eleanor Roosevelt • Corona, CA

The 2019 West Region Most Valuable Player, Jenkins was the cornerstone of a Thunderbird defense that only gave up 6 goals on the season – one of the fewest goals allowed by a team in NWAC women's soccer history.  In her time at Highline, the center back helped Highline to a combined record of 33-2-3 along with a final four appearance last season and a championship in 2019. Jenkins is currently looking at several offers from four-year schools for next season.
