Job Announcement: Athletic Trainer, Yakima Valley
Yakima Valley College is currently accepting applications for its Athletic Trainer position.
This position reports to the Director - Athletics. The Athletic Trainer/Coordinator assists and implements the educational plan of the instructor-of-record for Physical Education courses offered by YVC. The position requires creativity and innovation to facilitate fitness-wellness center programs and opportunities that are responsive to the needs of a diverse student population, including individuals with disabilities, and programs that are campus-wide and community served.
Provide Athletic Training Services: Evaluate and treat student-athletes to assist recovery from injury, avoid injury, and maintain peak physical fitness.
Essential Tasks
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in appropriate area of specialization
- Certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC)
- State Athletic Training Licensure (if warranted)
- Familiarity with NWAC governing rules
- Possess valid First Aid/CPR certification
- Possess valid WA state driver's license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2–3 years professional experience preferred
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Must be able to work in a fast paced-environment with reasonable mobility
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds
Qualifications
JOB PROFILE:
- Responsible for the supervision of the community college's student athletic training and fitness center staff
- Develop and provide sports medicine services for the intercollegiate athletic program, including: injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, and educational programs for student-athletes
- Provide athletic training services for the community college's sports department including attendance at scheduled team home competitions as necessary
- Willing to cover sporting events after hours and reports for event coverage and meetings at designated time
- Coordinate and schedule medical referrals and provide follow-up medical care/services as necessary for student-athletes to ensure a safe return to practice/competition according to stated medical standards
- Develop and schedule treatment programs in accordance with findings of evaluations and goals established by the injury assessment or by the treating physician
- Performs prevention walk-through with documentation at the start of the season that identifies and reports problematic areas within facility environment.
- Recommends corrections and reports problems or unsafe conditions
- Maintains and insures safe operation of athletic medicine/training equipment within the athletic medicine/training room facility
- Maintain appropriate, within HIPAA guidelines, medical records and individual athlete medical files
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of injuries, treatments, and provide insurance claim forms for any injury
- Complete, submit, and keep record of YVC secondary insurance claims
- Assist with the development and implementation of emergency operational policies and procedures of the athletic healthcare department
- Provide educational opportunities and/or referral sources for coaches related to sports medical care, emergency action plans, and first aid/CPR certification
- Work in conjunction with the coaching and/or strength and conditioning staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student-athlete needs
- Keep accurate record of student enrollment, attendance and scholastic progress
- Provide current course orientation materials utilizing the instructor's syllabus and course outline to each student
- Supervise and manage the Fitness Center daily operations and ensure safety standards for general membership, collegiate athletic participants, and enrolled fitness/wellness course students
- Maintains safety and health standards within the Fitness Center and administers first aid to injured members as necessary
- Introduce and present orientations for PE 076/General membership participants on the YAK Fitness Center Policies and Procedures and proper use of equipment guidelines
- Coordinate maintenance with the Athletic Director and upkeep of fitness center equipment
- Manages the supervision and workflow of the fitness area, locker room, and related areas
- Maintain general facility membership files, completed safety and health clearance forms in a confidential manner
- Plan and coordinate diverse fitness and wellness opportunities. Encourage healthy practices & lifestyle for participating members
- Provides educational and directional support to promote the area of health/fitness on the YVC Campus and volunteer/serve the community.
- Communicate with a diverse population of students and staff in a professional manner
- Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with instructors, coaches, administrators and support staff in a team oriented environment
- Establish and maintain cleanliness standards in the fitness center, training room, and athletic facilities by utilizing thorough and routine procedures
- Communicate with Athletic Director for the purchase of necessary equipment and supplies for fitness center/athletic training needs
- Evaluate and recommend new techniques and equipment that enhance and benefit the athletic department
- Maintain current certification as established by the National Athletic Trainers Association with respect to CEU's and state licensure requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned
