Job Announcement: Certified Athletic Trainer, Wenatchee Valley

Wenatchee Valley College is currently accepting applications for its certified athletic trainer position.

Job Summary

Wenatchee Valley College is a two-year Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) school seeking a certified athletic trainer to provide sports medicine coverage for seven intercollegiate athletic teams.  

Essential Functions

  • Evaluate and assess athletic injuries; implement preventive and rehabilitation programs to treat athletic injuries using the appropriate therapeutic modalities and treatments.
  • Determine appropriate referrals and consult with physicians, and other health professionals on injuries and treatment plans.
  • Coordinate with the coaching staff; inform coaching staff and other health professionals on the status of injuries and treatments plans.
  • Attend/cover practices and athletic events and provide medical emergency coverage to student athletes.
  • Maintain equipment and cleanliness of the athletic training and rehabilitation facilities.
  • Maintain appropriate training room records of injuries, treatment plans and progress notes.  Fill out injury claim forms and submit to collegiate insurance company promptly.
  • Assist in supervising the athletic training facility and the work of student workers.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in athletic training or related field, such as exercise science or kinesiology. 
  • National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) certification and eligible for licensure in the state of Washington.
  • Experience working with high school/collegiate athletes.
  • Familiarity with current issues and developments in the athletic training field.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing).

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree.
  • Two years' experience as certified athletic trainer, preferably at the college or high school level.
  • Experience working in several sports and with both men and women programs.
  • Well organized in terms of insurance claims, medical records, etc.
  • Experience creating digital content (such as Word/PDF documents and web and learning management system content as appropriate to the role) in accessible formats.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.

  • Customer Service: Knowledge of customer service skills and best practices with ability to provide general and specialized student support with professional courtesy, empathy, and interest in positive problem solving.
  • Oral communication: Speak clearly and persuasively, actively listen and take the time to understand the points being made, including asking questions as appropriate and responding to questions.
  • Quality: Accurate and thorough, look for ways to improve and promote quality, provide feedback to improve performance, monitor own work to ensure quality.
  • Professionalism: Approach others in a tactful manner, react well under pressure, treat others with respect and consideration and follow through on commitments.
  • Problem solving: Ability to assess situations and think beyond the immediate issue to anticipate and fulfill future needs before they become complications.
  • FERPA: Maintain a high level of confidentiality and follow FERPA guidelines.
  • Computer skills.
  • Knowledge, understanding and support of the mission of a comprehensive community college.
  • Ability to function in a multi-lingual and multi-cultural environment.
