Jovanny Lopez, Men's Soccer Offensive - Skagit Valley
Sophomore • Forward
Mount Vernon HS • Mount Vernon, WA
Lopez had a huge game for Skagit Valley to clinch their postseason berth with a 4-3 win over Everett. Needing at least a draw to clinch a berth, Lopez was incredibly impactful with a hat trick as well as an assist on the Cardinals other goal. He scored the opening goal of the game five minutes in to give SVC a 1-0 lead. After falling behind 2-1, Lopez scored back-to-back to put the Cardinals back on top 3-2. After Everett once again tied the game, Lopez assisted on Jesper Louis' game-winner in the 90th minute.
"Jovany was instrumental in the Cardinal' decisive away win at Everett," said head coach Richard Henderson. "Leading the line with tireless movement and clever, selfless runs, he once again embodied the sort of forward every teammate loves playing with and every defender dreads. His transitions from defense to attack were electric, capped off by two classic poacher's finishes and a composed 1v1 strike to seal a well-earned hat trick. To top it off, he provided the assist for the game-winner with a round-the-corner pass. Lopez was the leader, equal parts grafter and artist guiding the Cardinals to the NWAC tournament for a second consecutive year."
