NWAC Announces Men's & Women's Golf All-League Awards

VANCOUVER, Wash. - With the conclusion of league play this past weekend, the NWAC has announced its All-League awards for men's and women's golf.

Columbia Basin's Jesus Castaneda was named the Baden Men's Golfer of the Year after finishing with the lowest average of 73.9 in the four NWAC league matches. Castaneda was a model of consistency as he was the only men's golfer to shoot under 150 in three of four league matches. The freshman was not only consistent, but outright dominant at times with five rounds of shooting 73 or lower including a 69 score at the Centralia league match, which matched the best round by a single golfer all year. Castaneda finished second at both the CBC and Centralia league match and fifth at the Skagit Valley league match. His best three performances of the year total score put him four strokes ahead of Bellevue's Isaac Elaimy.

Defending NWAC Championship Medalist Jayda Thomas of Centralia continued her impressive play into 2024-25, earning Baden Women's Golfer of the Year honors. Thomas averaged a score of 79.6 per round this year, nearly two strokes better than the next closest competitor. Thomas was one of just four women's golfers to shoot under 80 in any round and she did so three times including both rounds at the most recent Spokane league match. Thomas earned medalist honors at three different matches this year including the Columbia Basin, Skagit Valley and Spokane league matches. She finished second at the Centralia league match. Thomas' performance at this past weekend's Spokane league match was the best two-round score for any women's golfer this year as she shot a 154. Her best three performances this year put her at a score of 473, 12 better than second place Jaclyn Yoo of Bellevue.

The NWAC Golf Championships begin on Sunday, May 18 at Apple Tree Golf Course in Yakima, Washington. Round 2 will take place on Monday, May 19.
