Job Announcement: Head Men's Soccer Coach/Admissions Counselor, SW Oregon

Southwestern Oregon Community College is currently accepting applications for its head men's soccer coach/admissions counselor position. 

Primary Purpose

The Admissions Counselor/Men's Soccer Coach is responsible for representing and presenting Southwestern's programs and opportunities to prospective students, parents, teachers, and counselors regionally and nationally. They are responsible for implementing student recruitment efforts for assigned prospective student pools, attracting a diverse student body, and collaborating with the admissions team to meet the college's enrollment goals. The Admissions Counselor/Men's Soccer Coach is expected to attend local, state, and national college fairs and assist in the planning and execution of both on and off-campus recruitment events. This position requires travel in the fall and spring as well as some evenings and weekends. The Admissions Counselor/Men's Soccer Coach must communicate effectively with people of diverse ethnic, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds. They must have strong interpersonal skills to interact appropriately in situations ranging from large meetings to individual appointments. They are responsible for facilitating enrollment by reaching out to prospective students at regular intervals, as well as during strategic recruitment and critical decision-making timelines and deadlines; actively engaging potential future students across multiple platforms and channels, performing outreach, and engaging students through various means including email, texts, videos, and social media posts. 

The Admissions Counselor/Men's Soccer Coach must have the ability to work independently, meet assignment deadlines, and set priorities relative to level of importance.   

The Admissions Counselor/Men's Soccer Coach needs to display strong writing, editing, and computer skills including MS Word, Excel, ability to learn our CRM databases, and comfort with mobile computing for presentations.  

The Men's Soccer Coach coordinates all functions associated with managing the collegiate Men's Soccer program. The specialist should have strong analytical skills, be self-motivated and goal-oriented, be highly organized, and be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. The specialist is expected to demonstrate direct knowledge of the community college mission, offerings, and student base, and to innovate and advocate for organizational change.

Description of Essential Functions

Admissions, College Recruiting and Collaboration (70% of Time)

  1. Represent the quality and scope of an education at Southwestern to high school students, prospective post-traditional students, prospective students, teachers, college/career centers, parents, and the general public.
  2. Present Southwestern's programs, admissions requirements, admissions policies, tuition and basic financial aid information.
  3. Collaboratively participate in, plan, organize and implement on- and off-campus recruitment events throughout and beyond the local student recruiting areas with the Director of Admissions; participate in hosting prospective student visits, campus information sessions, campus tours, and other traditional and innovative recruitment activities.
  4. Be present in the admissions office and serve as a member of the Admissions team to recruit and enroll qualified and motivated students to Southwestern's academic programs; contribute to each phase of the admission funnel and support the traditional and non-traditional recruitment efforts, occasional weekend/evening work required, and participation in marketing efforts.
  5. Represent Southwestern through a diverse array of recruitment programs and outreach activities; advise prospective students on the various courses, certificate and Associates' degree programs offerings, discuss admissions requirements and application processes and conduct transcript evaluations, as appropriate.
  6. Compile data from recruitment visits, campus visits, and a range of different communication channels, including the College website, telephone, email, live chat, marketing materials, and social media; participate in review and analysis of data from the results of recruitment efforts and make recommendations on revisions.
  7. Maintain thorough knowledge of college programs, processes, and services in order to effectively guide prospective students through the enrollment process.
  8. Contact and follow up with all inquiries received from web sources, college fairs, school visits, telephone/email, social media, etc. 
  9. Work closely with the athletic coaches from District area schools to develop rapport and enhance recruitment of student athletes.
  10. Works with the Student Services team, Communications and Marketing team, and program faculty to develop recruitment strategies, tactics, and processes in support of or in addition to the college recruitment plan.
  11. Collaborate with the Communications and Marketing team to develop electronic and print communications for groups of identified prospective students, follow up with personal contacts, and track actions taken and enrollment status for each prospect. Suggest enhancements to college website. 
  12. Participate in College-wide Recruitment Work Group to develop recruitment plan and implements assigned activities.
  13. Establish and maintain relationships with community groups, agencies, and businesses that offer opportunities for referrals/recruitment and/or work with other campus representatives to facilitate referrals/recruitment.
  14. Collaborate as a member of the recruiting team to develop strategies regarding in person and virtual college fairs.
  15. Advise and retain students by helping with walk-in and summer registration periods and orientation programs.

 Coaching Men's Soccer (30% of Time)

  1. Coach/coordinate/supervise the Men's Soccer Program. Adhere to established Southwestern Athletic Department Coaches Handbook.
  2. Recruit, retain, and coach a full roster of student-athletes for the Men's Soccer program at Southwestern.
  3. Develop home and away participation schedules and expectations. 
  4. Manage budget related to the Men's Soccer program. 
  5. Communicate and advise students about academic opportunities consistent with college programs, certificates, and degrees.
  6. Assist students in achieving academic and personal goals by addressing barriers and accessing internal and external resources (e.g. financial aid, tutoring, etc.).
  7. Act as a liaison between recruiting, housing, first stop and financial aid; scheduling students during summer.
