PORTLAND, Ore. – A two-year career for the books culminated in Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors for Seattle Pacific's Raymundo Mendez, who took home the league's top honor when the men's soccer all-conference teams were announced Tuesday.
A senior from Yakima, Wash., Mendez led the GNAC with 13 goals in 17 games this fall, matching his total from last year when he was named the GNAC Newcomer of the Year. The two-time unanimous first-team all-GNAC pick totaled 26 goals in his two seasons at SPU, ending up 21st in conference history despite playing just two seasons in the league. Mendez's pace of 0.74 goals per game was fifth best in GNAC history.
Prior to joining Seattle Pacific, Mendez played three seasons with Columbia Basin, culiminating in a 2022 NWAC Championship for the Hawks. Mendez totalled 22 total goals and 19 assists in 39 played games. His first year was during the 2020 partial season. He was an East Region All-Star in 2022 and the East Region MVP in 2021.
