Umpqua's Tshianyi, Lane's Hoff Lead 2026 NWAC Multi-Event Championships After Day 1
SPOKANE, Wash. - Umpqua's Becky Tshianyi and Lane's Lucas Hoff lead the 2026 NWAC Multi-Event Championships after an action-packed day one at Whitworth University, hosted by Spokane Colleges.
Through four of seven events in the women's heptathlon, Tshianyi leads the way by 167 points with 2,562. The sophomore was consistent throughout the first day, finishing in the top-four in all four events out of 12 total competitors. She started the day with a first-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 15.66 seconds to not only earn 756 points, but also the fastest time in the NWAC this season in the event. Tshianyi then finished fourth in the high jump at 1.54 meters, fourth in the shot put at 8.56 meters and third in the 200-meters in 27.09.
Spokane's Stephanie Chadduck had the best mark in the high jump of 1.69 meters, also setting the best height in the event all season in the NWAC. Spokane's Emily Kaylor had the best shot put mark of 10.53 meters. And Clark's Abby Mendoza ran a blazing tim of 25.02 seconds in the 200-meter dash, moving up to No. 2 in the NWAC this season.
Through four events, Kaylor ranks second with 2,395 points. Lane's Amanda Bennett is in third with 2,306 points while Mendoza is just behind with 2,266 points. The women's heptathlon will complete on Tuesday with the long jump, javelin throw and 800 meters.
On the men's side, defending champion Lucas Hoff looks well positioned to earn his second-straight title in the decathlon. Hoff had the best mark in all five events out of a small five-man field on Monday, earning him 3,554 points. Hoff is also over 100 points better than his total last year after five events. Hoff won the 100-meter dash in 11.52 seconds, the long jump 6.58 meters, the shot put at 11.25 meters, the high jump at 1.96 meters and the 400-meters in 51.16 seconds.
Southwestern Oregon's Jack Sperr ranks second with 3,098 points. Spokanes Jacob Goude is second with 3,060 points, followed by Spokane's Kyler Mitchell with 2,738 points.
Day two for the decathlon continues with the 110-meter hurdles at 9 a.m., followed by the discus, pole vault, javelin throw and 1,500 meters.
