Lane's Bennett Uses Big Javelin Throw to Claim 2026 Women's Heptathlon Title
SPOKANE, Wash. - Lane's Amanda Bennett took home the first medal of the season, winning the women's decathlon at the 2026 NWAC Multi-Event Championships on Tuesday at Whitworth University, hosted by Spokane Colleges.
Bennett by over 200 points heading into the last two events, but she still had her top event, the javelin throw, coming up next. Bennett, who has the second best mark in the event in the NWAC this season, came up with a huge throw of 41.28 meters, scoring 692 points to jump into first place. She then completed the 800 meters in 2:53 to hang onto first place and the gold medal by just over 100 points. Bennett's final score of 3,960 is the top total in the NWAC this season. To go along with her first place finish in the javelin, Bennett also took second place in the 100-meter hurdles, shot put and long jump.
Umpqua's Becky Tshianyi placed second overall with 3,843 points. The sophomore led for most of the two day event up until Bennett's strong javelin throw. Tshianyi finished in the top-four in six of seven events, including winning the 100-meter hurdles in 15.66. She also took second in the high jump and third in both the 200-meters and long jump.
Spokane's Emily Kaylor was just behind Tshianyi with 3,834 points. Kaylor took first place in the shot put with a mark of 10.53 meters and second in the javelin throw. Spokane also had the fourth place finisher in Stephanie Chadduck with 3,469 points. Chadduck was the winner of the high jump with a mark of 1.69 meters.
Clark's Abby Mendoza placed fifth with 3,427 points. Mendoza was strong in the running events, winning the 200-meters in 25.02 seconds and the 800-meters in 2:34.62. Umpqua's Jada Ross took sixth, followed by Clark's Nora Herinckx in seventh and Spokane's Kara Minette in eighth to close out the podium.
Spokane earned 12 team points towards the 2026 NWAC Championships on May 18-19 at Mt. Hood Community College. Umpqua posted 11 points, followed by Lane with 10 points and Clark with six points.
