Job Announcement: Head Women's Basketball Coach, Clark

Clark College is currently accepting applications for its head women's basketball coach position. 

Under the supervision of the Athletic Director, this part-time position will oversee all aspects of the athletic program within the athletic department and with the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) policy and regulations.  Clark College welcomes athletic coaches with a vision of excellence in coaching and a commitment to lead students to successful academic, vocational and athletic achievement. Clark seeks coaches who have the ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, staff and others in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and multicultural understanding. 
 
The head coach reports directly to the Director of Athletics, and shall supervise the program carried out under the umbrella of the Student Affairs division, as well as the Associated Students of Clark College.  
 
Such duties include, but are not limited to: teaching sport specific skills, contest preparation, practice planning, recruiting, public relations, developing and enforcing training rules, recruiting within the rules and regulations of the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC), assisting in transportation of teams, assisting in schedule development, assisting in equipment management, fundraising, helping to monitor academic achievement of student-athletes, and preparing and processing related paperwork.  Team recruitment continues throughout the year.  
 
 
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required
  • Two (2) years of successful coaching in high school or college  

 
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS 

  • Knowledge of NWAC rules and regulations 
  • Working and interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds  
  • Imparting excitement and enthusiasm into coaching 
  • Ability to develop and implement effective practices and game plans 
  • Effective oral/written communication with individuals at all levels both inside and outside of the College  
  • Availability to attend practices and games on weekday afternoons or evenings and weekends 
  • Availability to travel for recruiting evenings and weekends 

 
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT  
· 12 month appointment 
  
 
HEAD COACH – DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. RECRUITING 
  • Be familiar with all recruiting guidelines 
  • Ensure that all recruits are made aware of all the expenses involved in attending Clark, including the costs to live in the community 
  • Utilize ethical standards and stress the positive aspects of Clark College  
  • Work with assistant athletic director to administer Letters of Intent (LOI) 
    • Determine which athletes will receive LOI's and the amount each is to receive 
    • Provide athletic office with all required information
    • Stay within the guidelines for number and dollar amount for scholarships and maximum job dollars allowable 
  • Be knowledgeable regarding the areas of other financial aid and the appropriate use of internal and external athletic funding. 
  • Recruiting is a year-round effort 
  • Travel to high school events, tournaments, and summer showcase events
  1. ELIGIBILITY 
  • Understand and continue to update your knowledge of all eligibility rules and regulations, especially any new rules adopted at the annual commissioners' meeting.  
  • Inform all student-athletes of eligibility rules and regulations 
  • Know the correct procedures for petitioning athletes' eligibility 
  • Along with the basic eligibility criteria, make sure you are also familiar with areas such as:  summer school, attendance, participation, grade verifications, limited team membership, limitation on number of games, transfer rules, amateur status, etc. 
  • Make sure the athletic office has all the information needed from each athlete for the eligibility forms. Coordinate with your Athletic Director or the appropriate administrators to ensure that all athletes meet eligibility criteria and are on the eligibility list prior to the first practice or contest and that all information on the eligibility sheet is accurate.  
  • Work with the appropriate institutional personnel to track the academic progress for your athletes and make sure you are aware of their academic progress. 
  1. SCHEDULES & TRAVEL 
  • Work with the athletic department on scheduling all athletic events, abiding by the league schedules set up by the region commissioners.  
  • Be aware of all travel arrangements. Transport teams to events and ensure adequate supervision and assume responsibility for the conduct of the student athletes while on all road trips. Make sure an institutional representative accompanies the team at all times.  
    • Administer travel per-diem  
    • Fill out all travel forms in a thorough and timely manner following any team travel 
  • Obtain your van certification through the College 
  • Meet all scheduled obligations and work with athletic admin for any schedule or time changes 

 

  1. PREPARING ATHLETES FOR COMPETITION 
  • Help ensure that all your athletes have completed physical exams, filled out health records, NWAC questionnaires, assumption of risk forms, tracers for transfers, disclaimers and any other forms necessary prior to the first practice 
  • Be aware of the general rules and regulations concerning practices, what constitutes a practice, starting and ending dates, and supervision 
  1. DAILY PRACTICE 
  • Develop appropriate daily practice plans that include: 
    • Conditioning 
    • Fundamentals 
    • Special situations 
  • Be familiar with all rules and regulations governing your sport in addition to the NWAC sports-specific rules governing your sport. These include areas such as: playing season dates, travel squad size, pre-game regulations, protests, home team responsibilities, scrimmage rules and conference tournament schedule and rules and etc. 
  1. HELP ATHLETES TRANSFER 
  • Work with athletes and 4-year college personnel to boost the transfer process for your athletes 
  • Help to develop highlight materials (videos) 
  1. MISCELLANEOUS   
  • Community Service with your team 
  • Public Relations 
  • Fundraising 
    • Ensure that all ventures fall within Clark College and NWAC regulations 
  • Other Administrative 
    • Assist the athletic department in meeting required NWAC dates for rosters, schedules, pictures, and etc. 
    • Fulfill all the minimum requirements for community college coaching certification and work toward further professional development 
    • Fulfill all college tests/trainings prior to the start of each academic school year
    • Work within your college budget 
    • Order all equipment, uniforms, practice gear, etc. 
    • Work with the Athletic Trainer in ensuring all athletes are cared for and you have an understanding of all medical policies 
  1. TERM OF EMPLOYMENT / SALARY
  • Part-time position
  • SALARY:  $10,500 annually
