Job Announcement: Completion Coach/Head Volleyball Coach, Columbia Basin

Columbia Basin College is currently accepting applications for its head volleyball coach position. This position also serves as completion coach at CBC.

Description
 Columbia Basin College ("CBC" or the "College") seeks a Completion Coach/Head Volleyball Coach will assist in the delivery of comprehensive specialized services to enhance the retention and completion results of students at Columbia Basin College. The Completion Coach will employ proactive interventions for at-risk students, academic progress monitoring, general systems navigation, educational planning and provide academic advising during peak registration periods to support retention, persistence and completion. This position will be responsible for retention efforts and advising for students and for a comprehensive call-out program to assist students with college transition. In addition to Completion Coach duties, this position is also responsible for the development and maintenance of a competitive volleyball program within the guidelines of the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) and the College. This position reports to the Director for Advising, Retention & Completion as well as the Athletic Director for coaching responsibilities.

Note: This salary is a combined amount of Completion Coach annual salary ($53,174 - $63,809) and stipend for Head Volleyball Coach ($12,305). 

Primary Responsibilities

Completion Coach

  • Develop, manage and facilitate a student contact and call-out program to assist with college transition and to provide support throughout the quarter;
  • Develop, manage and supervise a Student Mentor Program to support and enhance retention and completion for student athletes and the general student body;
  • Develop and manage an academic early warning intervention program and provide follow-up services for referred students to identify and apply retention and completion strategies;
  • Develop, monitor and facilitate a degree completion intervention process to alert students to the graduation process;
  • Provide timely and accurate educational information to students regarding pathways, degrees, certificates, courses, college policies and procedures as well as campus resources;
  • Deliver developed workshops/presentations on topics to include study skills, college and career planning, financial aid processes, scholarship searches, test preparation, and motivation assessments;
  • Assist with the organization of the First Year Introduction program;
  • Assist with educational advising by developing online information sessions and an online advising program;
  • Assist students in identifying effective problem-solving skills, self-advocacy approaches, decision making and personal responsibility;
  • Disseminate information on programs and services to students, College staff, and the community; and
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Head Volleyball Coach

  • Develop and maintain a competitive volleyball program within the guidelines and philosophy of the College and the NWAC;
  • Recruit student athletes within the rules and regulations of the NWAC and CBC;
  • Teach the fundamentals of Volleyball and create practice and game schedules;
  • Develop and adhere to budgetary guidelines as established by the Athletic Department;
  • Promote a diverse College environment and enhance the College's visibility in the local community;
  • Participate in Athletic Department meetings and other activities to promote physical health and well-being within the student body;
  • Support student development through participation in co-curricular activities;
  • Promote high ethics and integrity through personal behavior and expectation of student behavior; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an institutionally accredited college or university; 
  • Two (2) years of experience working with diverse populations of varied ethnicities, ages, backgrounds and abilities in an educational, nonprofit or social services setting; 
  • Experience giving oral presentations in a group setting;
  • Experience playing or coaching competitive volleyball;
  • Have a valid US driver's license; and 
  • Have a current CPR/First Aid Card at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an institutionally accredited college or university;
  • One (1) year of experience working with under prepared adults, first generation college students, and/or students with special needs; and
  • Experience in a community college setting.
