Spokane Women's Cross Country Adds to NWAC Record with 20th Team Title

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. - The Spokane Sasquatch women's cross country team claimed the 2024 NWAC Women's Cross Country title on Saturday at Chambers Creek Regional Park, winning its second-straight title and NWAC-record 20th overall.

A year after dominating with a low score of 22 points, the Sasquatch followed up with another impressive performance with just 24 points. With five runners counting towards the team score, 15 points is lowest possible a team can score. Spokane had four of the top-seven runners, who each earned All-American for their finishes. Clark finished second place for the second-straight year with 67 points and Lane took third with 96 points.

Also for the second-straight year, a Clark Penguin won medalist as freshman Mia Beightol finished first with a time of 18:18.4. Beightol ran neck-and-neck with Spokane's top duo of Kaley Bohl and Mary Nakamura through the first 3,000 meters of the race, but pulled away in the final 2K loop to win by over 14 seconds. Bohl took second place in the race for the second year in a row, improving her time from 2023 by just over a minute. Nakamura moved up from fifth in 2023 to third in 2024, also greatly improving her time significantly by a 1:20.

Spokane's Emmalyne Jimenez finished fourth in a time of 19:13.5. Clackamas' Allison Moe took fifth in 19:32.2, followed right behind by Spokane's Ashlee Scheel in 19:32.7 for sixth place. Green River's Hanna Berdan closed out the All-American honors with a time of 19:44.8. The top-10 finishers also posted sub-20 minute runs as Umpqua's Sanyana Felipe took eighth in 19:44.8, Spokane's Holly Meadows placed ninth 19:46.7 and Lane's Saundra Parson finished in 19:54 for 10th.

Spokane had all five scorers finish in the top-nine runners and had seven in the top-16, showcasing their incredible depth. Head coach Sean McLachlan was named the NWAC Coach of the Year for the second year in a row, winning his eighth women's title all-time.
